John Tyler Hammons, a 19-year-old student at the University of Oklahoma was elected mayor of Muskogee, Oklahoma, a city with a population of 38,000.

Hammons won 70 percent of the vote to beat out a former mayor of the city. “The public placing their trust in me is the greatest, humbling and most awesome experience I’ve ever had in my life,” said Hammons, who says heĀ  will transfer to a school closer to Muskogee to properly fulfill his duty as mayor.
