Energy Drinks Make You Have Unprotected Sex

We’ve heard that they’re terrible for you for lots of other reasons, but now health researches say they can lead to risky behaviors. The word is the drinks can lead to “‘toxic jock’ behavior, a constellation of risky and aggressive behaviors including unprotected sex, substance abuse and violence.” We attribute it to the fact that most energy drinks on college campuses are consumed with vodka.

Professor Gets Fired for Being Too Hard; Only Has 66% Attendence

A prof at Norfolk State University has been fired for giving Ds and Fs to 90 percent of his class. However, the professor says the average student only attended class 66 percent of the time - indicative of an F average. But then again according to some US Education Department Data we found,  only 12 percent of Norfolk State students graduate in four years, and only 30 percent graduate in six years. Sounds like a place you might want to get fired from.

Lower Drinking Age Coming to a State Near You?

Fri, May 16, 2008

Probably not, though seven states are considering lowering the legal drinking age to 18. The argument is that at 18 years old you can fight a war in Iraq, get married, get credit cards, have children, purchase tobacco, and be tried as an adult in court, but buying a six-pack is way illegal. Evidently some folks in Kentucky, Missouri, Minnesota, South Carolina, South Dakota, Wisconsin and Vermont think that is bullshit.

Of course they are facing a lot of strong opposition from those fine folks at MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving), among other groups. One large problem with this plan is that seniors in high school would be able to buy and consume alcohol, but their friends in the class below wouldn’t - not likely that separation would work out well.

Sure would be nice for the first couple years of college though, wouldn’t it?

Facebook Redesign Coming Soon!

Since Facebook launched over three years ago not much has been done for their design. After just recently adding chat to the site, Facebook is planning their largest redesign ever. Word is that the new design will launch in the next couple of weeks. Here’s what you’ll be seeing.

Facebook on the new redesign:

“… aimed at making things simpler, cleaner, and more relevant, while still giving you control over your own profile.”

After a lot of complaints that Facebook was becoming too spammy and MySpace like, Facebook has decided to clean up the profile page and separate information. There are now tabbed areas of your profile, including tabs for Feed, Wall, and Applications. By doing this they are separating third party content and applications from the first party Facebook areas of the site. This should go a long way to clean up pages and make the site more readable. Personally, I am all for separating the more important information from the crappy applications some people add.

How To Spend Your Stimulus Check

So the government decided the economy needs a kick start and as a result many college students will be receiving a $600 stimulus check soon. You can find out when you will receive your check at a handy site that the IRS set up. Recent polls have shown that many Americans intend to pay off debt with the stimulus. The government wants you to go out and spend the money on American made products, after all that is the point of the program. Here is what you should probably do.

First, if you have credit card debt, pay the sucker off. There is no reason to keep paying 18-plus percent interest on your debt, no matter the size. Get rid of it. And after you do so, don’t view it as a green light to start spending again - that’s how you got into debt in the first place. After your make well with your debt, now might be a good time to cut down to only one credit card.

If you don’t have debt, you aren’t off the hook quite yet. If you haven’t thought about one, now might be a great opportunity to look into a Roth IRA. A Roth IRA is a great way to start putting away money, and it can grow quite nicely as you age.

This all being said, go buy whatever you want. Only live once right? Oh, and check out How I Spent My Stimulus - you can see how lots of people decided to spend their stimulus checks.

John Edwards announced his backing of Barack Obama today, adding to a growing list of endorsement and superdelegate wins for Obama in the past few days.

The announcement comes after Obama’s loss in West Virginia on Tuesday. Interestingly, John Edwards was actually on the ballot in West Virginia and came out with 7% of the vote, a sizeable amount for a candidate that dropped out of the race prior to Super Tuesday. The Obama campaign hopes that Edwards will bring in support in Hillary Clinton’s stronghold demographic - white, working class voters.
